Recently spammers have picked up the pace on posting SPAM blog comments on my page. I have gotten great offers to enlarge my p3n1s, discounds on v1agra, and I can also buy millions of dollars worth of gems CHEAP! Spammers are really annoying.

Fortunatley, I set up this blog so that I have to approve comments before they appear. I only wish they new that so they’d leave me alone.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. I’m busy, I’ve been working alot. I now have two jobs, both of which involve the tap-tap-click sensation of the keyboard. I guess if you think about it, I really have three jobs, now that I have dipped my toe into the world of property investment (It has taken up all my weekends). I have become ‘that guy’, but I love it! I apologize to all my friends whom I’ve ignored. I just haven’t had time to go out, and on the rare occasion I do find time, I really just want to sleep in. Sleeping in is great, especially when you have been up all night on the computer.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I will be out with the real world again one day. I’m not sure when that day will be. But it will happen, oh yes, it will happen ….

Gilfether.com runs Shoreline Firewall (Shorewall), an application built on top of IPTables. I recently implemented the blacklist, denying IP blocks from China, South Korea, and Russia from connecting to pretty much everything except port 80. I scripted it so that the list is updated once a month. It’s amazing how doing so has reduced the amount of spam I receive. Unfortunatley, I am still getting some from France and the U.S. It also appears that this has reduced the number of entries recorded in DenyHosts as it’s been quiet for the past 2 days.

For those that are interested, IP blocks for all the countries in the world can be obtained at http://www.completewhois.com/statistics/data/ips-bycountry/rirstats and is kept up to date. Download the ‘cidr.txt’ files for the countries you want to block, and use the ‘Include’ directive inside of the blacklist config file for Shorewall. Of course you will have to properly configure Shorewall to use the blacklist, which I will leave as an excersize for the reader.

I’ve been busy this weekend adding some updates and enhancements to the site. Here’s a list of the changes:

• Added site statistics module to the side bar. It’s the same one I wrote for AskRyan.com
• New links added to the Blog Roll, My sites, and Other important sites sections on the sidebar.
• I wrote a module to display the most recent photos added to my photo gallery in the sidebar.
• Added the new page DenyHosts Hall of Shame
• Added a Contact Me form, available via the link on the sidebar.
• Last but not least, I just finished writing my random fortunes module, which displays at the bottom right hand corner of every page. Thanks to http://wackowiki.com/RobertVaeth/Fortunes for providing the fortunes.

Let me know what you think, or if I messed something up and things don’t work. I’ve been up late doing updates, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I goofed up somewhere.

I’ve talked about it alot, but until recently I haven’t been able to wear it since I was 17. However last Saturday I was finally able to fit back into it and decided to wear it to Olivia’s birthday bash at Avenue in Washington DC. Here’s a photo of me rocking the fugly suit.

I keep seeing these commercials about Dexatrim Max 2o, and they make it seem like it would taste pretty good. This morning I decided to buy some on the way to work and try it. I got the mixed berry, and I have to admit, it’s not bad. Surprisingly it seems to be working so far too, as I’m not hungry. I’ll see how long the effects last though, but so far I give it my approval!

At work today I learned a valuable trick. While I was attempting to leave myself some notes on my whiteboard for Monday, I realized I had picked up the Sharpie (permanent black marker) instead of the Expo (white board black marker). Much to my frustration, I scribbled over the permanent marker with the white board marker. Not liking how the scribbling looked, I decided to wipe it off and do a better job. I expected to see my stupid permenant marker mistake, instead what did I see? NOTHING! Thats right, it was gone.

Apparently covering permanent marker with a whiteboard marker and then erasing it removes the permanent marker. AMAZING!

And now all is good in my world yet again.

Well today I’m moving out of my townhouse. So if you knew where I lived, after today don’t stop by because I won’t be here anymore I’ll be buying a house soon and will be living at the parents place until then. I will be renting my townhouse out if anyone is interested, contact me.
Also, I lost my old phone, and replaced with with a Blackberry. So please send me or call me with your phone numbers so I can get in touch with everyone again. I can also receive email on it, so feel free to email me too!
